@mrsbeanbag @halcy but to its defense I feel like a lot of stuff just works nowadays. Maybe not always to its full potential if you don't pick all the optimal components all the way - but USB-PD and Alternate Mode have been real game changers.

I can carry around one PD AC adapter and that's it. Maybe a small PD to whatever adapter for legacy devices. We can switch workplaces freely at work - even though people have different brands of laptops. If I decide to stay with a friend and want to get some work done from there - there is high probability I can just use their "docking station" by attaching a single USB-C cable.

Like yes, that stuff could be improved and often marketing is used to confuse users instead of giving them the best options - but we have come a long way.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell and people in #Europe should take note, too. Many of our countries might be going the same way, especially with the US and Russia going to information war with us.

Do not assume we are safe because the US is overseas.

We just did see the founding of "Turning Point Germany" ("Wendepunkt Deutschland") - just as one example.

The ties between European conservatives (not even far right wingers) and the networks behind MAGA (Heritage Foundation, etc.) are everywhere.

We need to prepare for the worst and fight for that not to happen.

@inthehands I agree Signal would be super helpful for grassroots group organising and at the same time doesn't have the best UI / group features for it.

AFAIK they don't really want to be a tool for that but I'd like them to reconsider given their overall mission.

Does anybody have a connection at Signal who could receive some urgent app design feedback? The app has several very specific problems / limitations / design quirks that are causing major headaches for neighbor groups trying to communicate here in Minneapolis.

(I’ll eventually try to write up some feedback through normal channels so it can go through the normal user feedback pipeline — but I’m sure any fixes that arrive that way will arrive far too late to be useful to us, so I’m not even bothering now. If there’s any chance of having some issues prioritized, I’d sure appreciate it.)
