Hi everyone! I’m a climate scientist who uses corals and cave stalagmites to reconstruct tropical Pacific climate, most notably the El Niño-Southern Oscillation. Increasingly, I’m getting involved with research on climate solutions including coastal flooding cearhub.org and urban heat extremes UrbanHeatATL.org I’m glad to be here and hope to interact with lots of #climate, #energy, #justice, and #scicomm enthusiasts.

On the agenda for the first time at #cop27egypt : #climatejustice #climatereparations #climatechange

"Across cultures and centuries, the idea that if you harm your neighbor’s property, you owe restitution is a commonly held notion, found even in the Bible.

But as a legal and practical matter, it has been extraordinarily difficult to apply that principle to climate change."

Energy efficiency has a vast potential for reducing energy demand and emissions.

It is the single largest measure to avoid energy demand in the @[email protected] Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario.

#Introduction:
I am a climate scientist with interests in better understanding historical changes in climate and extreme weather. Also think about future climate-related risks, among other topics: http://www.edhawkins.org

One key approach in this research is using citizen science to recover millions of lost weather observations, such as: http://www.WeatherRescue.org

I dabble in climate dataviz too, including the Climate Stripes: http://www.ShowYourStripes.info

Hi my #introduciton

I am a UK climate scientist with 20+ years (OK nearly 30) experience modelling #climatechange and interactions with ecosystems. Carbon cycle feedbacks and how to use this info to inform climate mitigation policy – esp. things like carbon budgets to stay within climate goals. I’ve been an IPCC author on AR4, AR5, AR6 (mostly WGI).

Time for a proper #introduction

I am a scientist with a background in terrestrial #carbon and nutrient cycling. Currently leading a team working on land-based CO2 removal #CDR, especially #EnhancedWeathering.

Interested in everything related to #ClimateChange.

#SciComm: mostly climate change outreach and education.
Compiled a climate book (in Dutch): https://www.aspeditions.be/nl-be/book/van-klimaatverandering-naar-systeemverandering-herziene-editie/18939.htm

Fantastic, @Peters_Glen has come to mastodon it seems : one of the absolutely best analysts of the global carbon cycle and greenhouse gas emissions, a one-person powerhouse of knowledge! Very happy about that. Welcome, Glen!

Solar and wind have seen huge drops in cost over the last decade according to @[email protected].

Solar ⬇️ 85%
Wind ⬇️ 55%

But skeptics often state that using levelised cost of energy (LCOE) as a metric is meaningless because it ignores cost of integrating solar and wind.

A response. 🧵
