Andreessen Horowitz, the venture capital giant that has made mega-bets on cryptocurrencies and blockchain companies, is in this market really, really deep -- so keep that in mind as you read @molly0xfff's trenchant thread on the firm's highly questionable '"state of crypto" ̶p̶r̶o̶p̶a̶g̶a̶n̶d̶a̶ report', as she calls it.
No one covers this sleazy field as well as she does. https://mastodon.social/@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io/110180992679102953
You can't take work that's been exposed as racist and "clean it up" with a footnote saying "But not the racist bits". You've got to actually work on being anti-racist.
Case in point: Did you know that the "sparks of AGI" paper takes it definition of "intelligence" from an editorial signed by 52 scholars *defending* IQ as "not racist" and making assertions like those in these screencaps:
>>
Absolutely righteous editorial in today's Financial Times from @ciaranmartin on the UK government's attempt to break encryption 'for the children.' Martin explains clearly how it is simply not technically possible to get the solution the UK government wants.
From top to bottom, this is how you address the Crypto Wars as a communicator and expert, and it's filled with absolute bangers like this one: "there has never been a mechanism for providing government access without weakening security."
