Human, Jew, Israeli — one voice among many.

This is one Jew's journal: life, thoughts, the Jewish calendar,
current events, occasional photos. Seen from where I find myself, which is Israel, shaped by growing up in Denmark.

Not speaking for anyone but myself.

When Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 2000, many hoped Hezbollah would demobilize. Instead, it entrenched. The withdrawal wasn't an ending for them -- it was a proof of concept.

New piece on A Jewish Voice traces the road from the withdrawal to UN Resolution 1559: what the international community demanded, why it couldn't deliver, and what that failure set in motion.

Part 1 of a longer series on Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon.

The End of One War, the Beginning of Another

This is the first part of a longer series of articles, where I put a focus on Hezbollah and their history of entrenchment in Southern Leba...

New piece on A Jewish Voice: Western commentary on Israel-Palestine keeps getting it wrong — not for lack of moral seriousness, but because it applies rational-actor frameworks to actors operating in an eschatological register.

I write about what religious extremism actually feels like from the inside, Scott Atran's Devoted Actor research, and how this conflict is being theologized from both sides.

When the Framework Is the Problem: Religious Extremism and the Limits of Western Analysis

Haviv Rettig Gur recently published a video responding to Ezra Klein's podcast on what Klein calls the "one-state reality" between the rive...

New piece on A Jewish Voice:

Five weeks in, the IRGC is still shooting. Air power is degrading Iran's hardware, but it cannot dissolve the loyalty calculations of 300,000 security personnel, and it cannot answer the question every Iranian must ask before acting: what comes after?

The Hormuz choke point, the midterm clock, and the missing ground threat: why the war's instruments and its objectives may be fundamentally misaligned.

The Missing Piece: Why Air Power Alone Will Not Free Iran

This post follows my earlier piece, Stop Treating Iran as a Rational Actor, and should be read alongside it.

A Jewish Voice

Ben-Gvir is celebrating the death penalty bill as his great victory.

Meanwhile, ordinary Israelis are still struggling with the same cost of living, the same housing crisis, the same security anxieties this government has done nothing to address.

Don't be mistaken, this is a fascist politician using a corrupt coalition to pass a law that costs him nothing and signals everything to his base.

We didn't get cheaper rent. We got executions.

Iran uses cluster munitions on civilian areas. Amnesty International has documented the use of children as soldiers. Neighboring countries live under the shadow of Tehran's expansionism.

Yet Western streets fill with marchers defending this regime.

Moral clarity is not optional.

You'd think 26–40 Christians massacred by extremist gunmen on Palm Sunday would cause a bigger uproar in the West than an archbishop being temporarily blocked from a church over security concerns. But here we are. Not all lives register equally.

Sitting in the shelter with neighbors while my wife is out picking up the kids.

I'm not scared for myself. But not knowing if she has somewhere to go — that's a different kind of hard.

This is what war looks like from the inside. Not always explosions. Sometimes just waiting, and the silence between messages.

Disagreement is welcome here. Genuine conversation even more so.
But there's a line between disagreement and hatred, and anyone
who crosses it gets blocked. No drama, no debate about it.

Glad you're here.

Created this profile a year ago, said nothing. Felt like the
world had enough noise already.

Still does. But here we are.

The world is loud, angry, and everyone seems to be talking past
each other. This isn't that. This is a journal, my thoughts,
my experiences, my reality as a human being who happens to be
a Jew living in Israel. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm aware my reality is complicated. I'm also aware that others
have it harder. Both things can be true.
