Don't forget to occasionally take secure #backups of your passwords and other stored secrets. I've downloaded my #Vaultwarden vault to an encrypted json file that I can hopefully use to bootstrap a new account in case something happens to my main one.

Any tips or suggestions as to how others securely back theirs up?

@Edent the trap some people fall into with NixOS is that they think configuration.nix is a static configuration with a format that could be easily managed with a GUI; however, that file is just a single module in a full programming language, and in that fact lies a lot of the power that Nix and NixOS can offer. It's not just a fancy rc.conf.

But, and this is what I did, you can treat it as such when you start out, and then move your way up over time.

This has been my experience as well. It took me at least 2 or 3 attempts (some of which were in a virtual machine) before I started settling in on a configuration. Also, there is NO need to rush into using flakes. You can get a long way before you have to start going down that path.

@cks I wish I could fill this survey out!
I have been invited to but turned down 3 conferences talks already this year because they're told me it's new policy to not cover speaker travel under the assumption that your tech employer will cover it. I own my own small business as a researcher and my wife is an academic teaching professor, so I cannot ask my household to absorb that.
