When I put away Christmas lights at the end of the season, I like to just wad them up. That way, when I pull them back out after Halloween, the November version of me can feel superior to the January version of me, and congratulate himself on all his personal growth throughout the year!

There are two problems in computer science:

1) Naming things
2) How do you get two objects that really shouldn't know about each other to share data?
3) Off-by-one errors

Now that I have my first iPad with cellular, I understand why so many people have been begging for cellular Macs for years.

Having native cellular support is soooooo much better than tethering. It's faster, doesn't kill your phone battery, more reliable, etc.

Wow, it's great.

Perhaps the *real* opportunity with Generative AI is for businesses who take advantage while all their competitors are distracted, and solve an actual problem with a solution that actually works and can be sold for actual profit.

Ed Zitron counters the AI boom narrative with 3 key arguments that we’re actually in an AI bubble.

1. Nvidia is the biggest winner in the AI boom and it depends on FAANG buying more GPUs each year.

2. Analysts believe Amazon, Google & Microsoft are spending ten times as much on data centers & GPUs than they make from AI.

3. Hot startups like Anthropic & OpenAI are making billions but are losing billions more buying GPUs & cloud services.

I have a strong feeling generative AI is going to end up like crypto. Ethically questionable, solves a narrow set of problems, lots of broken promises that don’t live up to the hype and yet a bunch of people get incredibly rich along the way.
To be fair: it is a REALLY HARD problem, and maybe what I’m getting at is that they don’t have a proven history of GROWING platforms. The history seems to be jumping on the wave if it happens, but not doing as much as they could to create or amplify waves.
