Even people who do break with some of it don't break with everything. A depressing number of my relatives who try to accept me as gay voted for Trump. I also know people who want climate action but are vaccine deniers.
Reevaluating beliefs is hard work, so it's not surprising that not everyone gets to everything. Still, there's an element of responsibility in what you participate in. It's tough, but people like this need a measure of both compassion and criticism, not only one or the other.

My own experience is similar. James Dobson was on the radio in my childhood home. Most of the people I was friends with through college did not deprogram as of when we lost touch. Lots of people stay in that world and don't question it.
