The GITS franchise has been around for a while now, with the aforementioned sequel to this, and several anime shows, like a new one coming out later this year that replicates the exact art style of the original anime. #CultShelf

The movie was eventually remade here in 2017 with Scarlett Johansson as the Major and #CultShelf fave Takeshi Kitano as the Chief. It’s…not really this movie.

This was quite a popular crossover for anime in the mid 90’s. It was really early for the major anime boom that was to come. #CultShelf

This is very loosely based on the manga By Masamune Shirow, which has the bones of this plot, but a lot more episodic. #CultShelf
