Elections in the Netherlands next week, and the extreme-right populist party will likely be the biggest (again)... Cartoon from last year.

Imagine a browser where you type in “Taylor Swift” and it doesn’t even admit that her website exists. I write about Atlas, ChatGPT’s new anti-web browser that should come with a warning label. https://www.anildash.com/2025/10/22/atlas-anti-web-browser/

Largest study of its kind shows AI assistants misrepresent news content 45% of the time – regardless of language or territory. An intensive international study was coordinated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and led by the BBC.

Not at all shocking. We all know about fake news. But what about fake news that isn't made for human consumption, but rather for digestion solely by LLMs, and designed to influence how they represent the news to others? Newsguard had a report about it earlier this year, regarding a Russia-based news network.

Just received an email from YouTube that they'll soon enable autodubbing on the OctoPrint channel for new and soon also old videos. Hell no, every time I run into this AI shit when watching YouTube I just want to scream, it's THAT bad.

Thankfully, there's a way to opt-out, and I just did that. And if you upload stuff to YouTube, for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE disable that too!

Uncheck Channel Settings > Upload defaults > Advanced Settings > Automatic dubbing

A lot of services that are supposedly running in EU are currently having significant issues due to AWS US-EAST-1 being impacted. But surely this is just some dependencies that are down and all our data is really stored in EU. Right?

"#Microsoft built a data centre in the northwestern Netherlands despite opposition from local farmers, promising it would only need between 12 and 20 million litres of water annually. Dutch media later revealed the data centre was consuming more than four times that — as locals were being asked to limit their own water use. Thirsty AI data centres are coming to Canada, with little scrutiny or oversight | CBC News

Canada is poised to join the data centre boom. But as such projects face greater scrutiny around the world, there is little debate here about what this will mean for the country’s water.

#WTF #Apple #Tahoe Preview? These are white, A4 PDF pages, they don't have round corners. We are not on battlestar galactica. I need my pdf preview to show me my paper as it is, not with different rounded corners based on my zoom factor 😡

Apple and Facebook are enemies of the open web, and they've shown it by removing apps or pages where people report sightings of Trump's ICE thugs.

The "Justice" Department can't (yet) force censorship of regular websites that don't break laws.

This is why we have to save the open web.
