Wow, I am incredibly honoured to receive the AoIR 2024 dissertation award 🎉
This is an amazing recognition from an inspiring community of scholars!

Special thanks to the award committee and all the people, inside and outside academia, who supported me along the way!

AoIR is happy to announce that the 2024 Dissertation Award Winner is Dr. Robert Dorschel.

His dissertation, "The Social Codes of Tech Workers: On the Quest to be Middle-Class Wealthy and Morally Worthy", addresses a wide range of pressing issues related to digital labour, class dynamics, ethical considerations in technology, diversity & inclusion, & the broader impacts of digital capitalism on society.

The committee selected Dr. Yeweon Kim with an Honourable Mention.

@robert_dorschel Hey Robert, I just finished reading your paper on tech workers from last summer. (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/00258172221103015)

I have a question for whenever you have a minute regarding the critique of economic inequality: did you see a difference in regards to if the interviewees were working for what you described as “established tech firms" vs. others, in supposedly less stable situations in the long term such as startups?
Did you see a difference there between male / female / non-binary?
