#WritersCoffeeClub 1/25: How do you feel about writers who write outside of their gender/sexuality/race?

I write in a fictionalized version of the real world, a real world that should look and feel like the one we inhabit. And it's my responsibility to research, do the work & listen.

One of the best explanations I've seen on this topic was this snapshot of Marginalized *characters* vs. marginalized *stories*.

#WritersCoffeeClub 21: Do you know the ending before you start writing?

It depends. I'll sometimes start a thing with a vague notion. With the WIP, it came to me while working on the 1st chapter. Saw it like a movie scene. I outlined toward it.

I find my openings can shift more than my endings. I seem to stick endings like Mary Lou Retton and Simone Biles stick a landing.

Why is your MC the way they are?

Why is anyone the way they are? Family, environment, running from family environment. Relationships, "home" underscores the whole premise of the WIP.
