People are not friction

The Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect of AI is a pretty well documented phenomenon: The Gell-Mann amnesia effect is a cognitive bias describing the tendency of individuals to critically assess media reports in a domain they are knowledgeable about, yet continue to trust reporting in other areas despite recognizing similar potential inaccuracies.

@atpfm @marcoarment are you aware you can send terminal commands to multiple computers at once in Apple Remote Desktop?
@paul @anco there is not a way to do that with a profile. 18.7.2 is the end of the iOS 18 road for those phones that can upgrade to 26 unless Apple reverses this user hostile decision (very unlikely). The only exception is there was about a week where turning on betas would get you to 18.7.3, but that doesn’t work anymore and there is no way to install any later versions of 18 on those devices.

A few notes about the MacBook Neo

The MacBook Neo is overall a very nice machine. This isn't a review, just a few bullet-point impressions after trying one in person.

@morrick In a sense they were thinking extremely differently in that last decade.

"Palantir CEO Alex Karp thinks his AI technology will lessen the power of “highly educated, often female voters, who vote mostly Democrat” while increasing the power of working-class men.

“This technology disrupts humanities-trained—largely Democratic—voters, and makes their economic power less. And increases the economic power of vocationally trained, working-class, often male, working-class voters....”

The MacBook Neo is such an interesting machine that it coaxed a thousand-word-essay out of me: https://samhenri.gold/blog/20260312-this-is-not-the-computer-for-you/

I enjoyed @sboots’s essay on becoming a “generative AI vegetarian”, and for a few reasons: it’s a great read, first and foremost, but also my GOODNESS is this well-sourced. Sean pulls together many, many threads here; always grateful for a map like this.

Generative AI vegetarianism

Hello, it’s me: I’m a generative AI vegetarian. The tech industry is convinced this is the future; I don’t want any of it, full stop. Why choose generative AI vegetarianism? Just like real-life vegetarianism, there are a bunch of good reasons.

@dangrabham “It did surprise me that the two USB ports are different. That fact wasn’t hidden, but it does feel like it will be a little annoying for some users even though you can charge from both ports. What I don’t know is whether that’s a restriction to do with the hardware used or a cost-saving measure.”

That is a hardware limitation of the A18.
