security advice, 2026: writing your passwords down in a notebook is one of the most secure storage methods for most users

(fun how threat models change over time, eh?)

@pft if factoring large integers is no longer an exponentially hard problem, it puts the fundamentals of much of the past 40 years of cryptography at risk. Will people have defense in depth — absolutely, or at least we would hope so. But when the cryptography is no longer fit for purpose, it has to be replaced, even if you have other mitigations in place.
