Catch PhraseI've been in this meeting before.

The last 10 years have been amazing. From launching Quad9 DNS with Packet Clearing House, to kicking off Common Good Cyber and the Common Good Cyber Fund, the Global Cyber Alliance has accomplished a lot. I was privileged to help support the people who did those things, both at GCA and across the community. One team, one fight.

I'm not going away, but staying involved through GCA with Common Good Cyber and Nonprofit Cyber, two initiatives dear to me. And I'll be helping support Brian Cute as GCA CEO - who will lead the organization to even bigger and better things.

I'd also like to thank you all, too many to name. I'll especially call out William Pelgrin, whose vision created GCA, Cyrus Vance and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office who supplied the seed funding, Ian Dyson CBE QPM DL and the City of London Police who provided critical early support and guidance, Center for Internet Security and John Gilligan for continuing support for all 1-10 years, and Craig Newmark who has funded so much of GCA's critical cybersecurity work to support hashtag#CyberCivilDefense.

Best wishes, and don't be a stranger.

🎂 Today marks a milestone — 10 years of the Global Cyber Alliance! 🎉

Since September 16, 2015, GCA has been working with governments, nonprofits, and businesses around the world to take on systemic cyber risks that no single organization can solve alone. Together, we’ve built practical solutions, forged global partnerships, and helped protect millions from the growing tide of cyber threats.

As we step into our second decade, we’re also thrilled to welcome Brian Cute as Interim CEO as original CEO Philip Reitinger retires.

“Cyber threats are escalating in speed, scale, and sophistication, and the world cannot afford complacency,” said Cute. “GCA has shown what’s possible when we act together. The next chapter is about urgent, global collaboration — building resilience, closing the gaps criminals exploit, and making the Internet safer for all.”

Thank you to our partners, donors, and communities who have worked so hard to make our digital lives more secure. Here’s to 10 years of impact — and to the work still ahead. 💪🌍

Celebrating 10 Years of GCA

Global Cyber Alliance Marks 10 Years of Impact, Appoints Brian Cute as Interim CEO to Lead in a Critical Moment for Cybersecurity

@wendynather Can you share your current email address? I want to send you something. Best, phil

Philip Reitinger has announced his retirement as President and CEO of the Global Cyber Alliance effective September 15, 2025.

Chief Operating Officer Brian Cute will act as Interim CEO. Cute has served as GCA’s COO since 2022 and brings more than 25 years of experience in Internet policy, technology, and nonprofit leadership.

GCA’s founding CEO, Reitinger’s extraordinary skill and experience have built the organization into the global powerhouse it is today. His vision guided GCA through multiple high-impact initiatives including improving email security by advocating for #DMARC, launching Quad9 DNS to block malicious websites for everyday Internet users, developing five versions of the GCA #Cybersecurity Toolkits, tackling systemic Internet integrity problems like unwanted traffic, domain name abuse, and routing security (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security (MANRS), and, most recently, leading the Common Good Cyber charge to sustainably fund cybersecurity-focused nonprofits.

"I am immensely proud of the work we’ve done together over the last ten years. It has been an honor," said Reitinger. Read his full statement, along with statements from Brian Cute and GCA Board Chair William Pelgrin here:

The United Nations work on cybersecurity should include the non-government stakeholders who actually do the work of securing the Internet for everyone. Right now, that's not the approach the UN is taking. https://docs-library.unoda.org/Open-Ended_Working_Group_on_Information_and_Communication_Technologies_-_(2021)/Joint_stakeholder_statement_on_the_Zero_Draft_and_Rev._1_Annex_III%E2%80%99s_section_on_stakeholder_modalities.pdf
"During FIRSTCON in Copenhagen on June 24, @wendynather Nather, senior research initiatives director at 1Password, welcomed the new [Common Good Cyber] fund, saying, “It shows that some organizations are trying to funnel more money on cyber non-profits on which we all depend.” https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/common-good-cyber-non-profit/

We’re excited to officially announce the Common Good Cyber Fund, working with the rest of the Common Good Cyber secretariat organizations and with the @internetsociety as the fund manager, to strengthen global #cybersecurity by supporting #nonprofits that deliver core cybersecurity services.

Today we are very proud to announce the new Internet Pollution Index, a new tracker that visualizes global cyber threat activity in real time, helping network operators, policymakers identify and mitigate malicious Internet behavior.

"After seeing what #MANRS has done for improving #RoutingSecurity, I am optimistic that we can find some common agreed norms for how you find and stop this nonsense in your network before it attacks somebody else, before it trashes the reputation of your IP addresses, and before we have a mess in the Internet."

That was Leslie Daigle's final message to the RIPE NCC community at #RIPE90, after presenting the #InternetPollutionIndex and GCA's work around the #AIDE project.

Protecting high-risk actors and organizations requires sustained commitment. It demands investment in #cybersecurity solutions, collaboration among stakeholders, and innovative funding models for long-term resilience. Initiatives like Common Good Cyber are a crucial step in this direction. This week, Common Good Cyber and UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) will host “Bridging the Gap: Delivering Cybersecurity to High-Risk Actors.” This closed-door event will bring together cybersecurity experts, #nonprofit leaders, and #policymakers to discuss solutions for strengthening digital defenses for #civilsociety. The event’s discussion panels will focus on three primary topics: * Identifying effective support for high-risk actors * Growing the capacity of network defenders * Strategic support for the nonprofit ecosystem Learn more about the work in today’s post: https://globalcyberalliance.org/civil-society-cybersecurity/
