rajabu chiwaya - east africa tingatinga

everything is blending together in an overwhelming high contrast nightmare. some kind of inescapable consequences? a state of terror / shame / paranoia...
vs.
everything is clearly defined, each creature seems alert, but loose, free in their expression, no conflict. at ease. harmonious / curious /alive. smooth simple color.

edgar church - 1933

I didn't find what this is from, but I think it's great. In the old comics the heroes seemed so entitled to explore and adventure.
When I was 10-11 y.o. I lived on a military base and we would run around in the woods and it was fun. I hope all kids get to have that, and I know a lot of kids don't.

This guy's hood reminds me of the covid mask hoods that the graffiti gangster kids wear on the bus.

All that is old is new again? 😎

russian elephants - waldemar kazak

this guy puts a lot of humor in his super skilled illustrations. I don't know if this was in reference to anything specific but it's great. I feel judged and imposed upon by some ancient, cynical, self-righteous powers.

tae lee - [very long title]

really like the use of color. The spirit or essence or mood or whatever in the center seems like it's lighting up the darkness and everything is responding with magic.

anyways I thought another reason for an offering other than need, or desire, is gratitude, which is maybe sort of the internal aspect of thanks-giving 😎 and a nice place to put one's focus

burnt offering at a copse of cypresses -  Traugott Hermann Rüdisühli

People don't seem to do as many burnt offerings nowadays.

Seems like it ought to mean something to someone if I burn this thing and bare my soul, announce my suffering, ask for change.

We are to a large extent helpless out here under the stars.

l'oracle de delphes - john william godward 1899

I read a little of the wikipedia article about the oracle and she was one of the most powerful women in their society.

Apparently the oracle connected to the divine through a smoky dark chasm. I hope that she worked to maintain peace and inspire civilized behavior. Mother-beauty-love-wisdom-sensuality-calm-shadow all seem to radiate here

storm in the mountains - albert bierstadt

still gray and drizzly here so this stood out to me this morning.
the fact that a human person attained this level of skill is so impressive to me, they did this with paintbrushes and paint back before there were cars or equal rights (theoretically) for women and POC.

I wonder if this is a real weather pattern somewhere or if it is fantastic, displaying in good light the power and majesty of the mountains and wind and clouds.

perseus and the nymph - ernst fuchs

mythical representation of a hero and his beloved that seems to have a bit of satire? if it wasn't intentional that would be even funnier. I love those shoes wow. Winged sandals from the Gods or whatever, should look like that. Or were the "Gods" aliens?

Nothing alien about her embrace of his thigh.

I think I had visions like this when I was in middle school and I was climbing the rope in gym class.
