Two of those songs ended up being chosen for publication on the compilation series “Neo-Rockabilly Story”, well-known within the scene. The studio recordings were also passed around on audio tapes (!) and proved very popular. They can still be found on YouTube today.
After the band called it a day, its members went on to play in numerous other successful outfits of various styles, such as “The Foggy Mountain Rockers”, “Heavy Teddys”, and “A.G. & The Motel Kings”.

Right from the start, self-penned tunes were part of the trio’s repertoire, with numerous scene hits thrown in for good measure to get the crowd bopping and singing along.
After winning first prize in a competition by a local newspaper, the band was provided its first opportunity of recording semi-professional multi-track songs in a studio.

When he later re-joined the band temporarily, it changed its moniker to “Captain Igloo & His Raw Bop Trio” for a brief spell. Eventually, both Jummi and Sunny left the band.
However, new bassist Matthias “East” Zedschak proved to be a worthy replacement and the band continued to play as a three-piece until it split up for good.

The founding members included MJ Rawbop (vox, guitar), Oliver Clayton (drums, b.vox) as well as “Sunny” Sweetgeorge Brown (upright bass), who unfortunately passed away much too soon. Sunny’s contribution to the band was his bigger, supra-regional experience.
Occasionally, the sparse sound of the three-piece was complemented by Sibi (sax) and Peter Paul (washboard). When Sunny left the band after several years, he was replaced by “Jummi” Jungbluth.

On the back of gigs in the Bonn region, said trio soon made a name for itself and found a loyal following amongst local gig-goers despite its unusual line-up and limited musical skills.
Inspired by the sounds of Batmobile, the early Meteors and the Stray Cats, the “Raw Bop Trio” quickly developed its own style with a driving slap bass, up-tempo drums and brutal riffs as well as frequent vocal harmonies.

In the wake of the growing neo-#rockabilly and #psychobilly scene of the mid 80s, the fertile musical ground of #Rheinbach, west of the Rhine and close to #Bonn, Germany, with its vast array of local teenage bands of all genres (including acts such as “Amoklaufende Frittenbuden”, “The Cucumbers”, “Die Geschälten Bananen”, “The Screw Balls”, “The Delegations”) gave birth to a classic #rocknroll trio (guitar, stand-up drums, double bass).
