Canvas hack is extremely bad, the "biggest student data privacy disaster in history" because it contains billions of messages between students and their professors, which can be extremely sensitive: "There's personal circumstances, medical circumstances, accessibility accommodations, disputes, sexual assault allegations, like all sorts of stuff would be getting reported to the instructor using Canvas."

'The Biggest Student Data Privacy Disaster in History': Canvas Hack Shows the Danger of Centralized EdTech

Nothing is "meant to be thrown away." Not the MTV News archive. Not Gawker. Not the penny press of the 1800s. 🕳️

Maria Bustillos argues that keeping the receipts is about more than nostalgia. It's about the raw material of history.

What are some good ideas for upcycling old PC cases?

Most panels are riveted together so there's a bit of labour involved.

Seen folks who clear them out and use then as cat beds...

SSDs, NVMEs, and SD cards are made by The Ram Cartel, and they're subject to the the same pricing and supply shenanigans.

Hackaday posted an article on alternatives: DVD and Blueray drives and discs.

For long term storage and archival purposes you might as well burn a disc instead of SSDs and SD cards. Discs have longer mechanical longevity.

I have 1 free DVD writer for anyone interested.

With Affordable Storage Options Dwindling, Where To Store Our Data?

These days our appetite for more data storage is larger than ever, with video files larger, photo resolutions higher, and project files easily zipping past a few hundred MB. At the same time our op…

Starting September 2026, a silent update, nonconsensually pushed by Google, will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google, signed their contract, paid up, and handed over government ID.

Every app and every device, worldwide, with no opt-out.

Your phone is about to stop being yours. In September 2026, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.

I work at #Grafana and persuaded my marketing team to sponsor #emfcamp ... I was speaking to #Antithesis and also persuaded them to sponsor EMF Camp.

Result... EMF Camp have a load of money, and I have more tickets than I need = a good problem.

Antithesis have given me 2 tickets and 1 car park pass to EMF Camp to give away, for free, with zero expectation of anything... also I have maybe 1 spare Grafana sponsor ticket... but how to do this?

Well here's Antithesis https://antithesis.com/ just for FYI, it's like a simulation testing fuzzer... runs your containers and fuzzes them amongst other things. Grafana you already know. That's the entire marketing pitch for both.

Anyone who both boosts and likes this post by 12:00 UTC on Thursday 7th May... those people will be entered into a random draw and I will give those people tickets. If someone does not reply within an hour of me notifying them, I'll move on to the next person, etc until all the tickets I hold are gone.

Yay to EMF Camp https://www.emfcamp.org/ which is July 16th– 19th 2026 in Eastnor, UK.

Filter out #grafithesiscamp to prevent ever seeing this message again if you are not interested.

Loading libreboot on a #thinkpad x200s and I might as well replace the BIOS chip with a SOIC compatible one.

Unclear why IBM\Lenovo opted for different profile chips between the x200 and x200s, but the x200 BIOS might work on the x200s, possibly a different power profile.
