Scientists in China have developed an innovative "water battery" with almost double the energy density of conventional lithium batteries, along with improved safety features. Created by researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), this aqueous battery, based on iodine and bromine, reaches an energy density of 1200 watt-hours per liter (Wh/L), significantly higher than the 700 Wh/L of standard lithium cells.
