Dr. Sam Wolff is an Assistant Professor and one of the founding members of Purvis Lab, having been with the lab since its early beginnings in 2014. Sam’s role in the lab is to support day-to-day operations—making sure everything is stocked, the equipment working, and handling administrative work. Sam also conducts his own research, studying drug resistance in breast cancer over the last four years, with recent work exploring the use of CDK4/6 inhibitors in liposarcoma.

We are excited to welcome Aditi Deshpande to the Purvis Lab! This summer, Aditi will be continuing her research with support from a SURF grant, working alongside Dr. Tim Daugird to explore patterns in protein expression using quantitative approaches. Aditi is a sophomore at UNC majoring in Quantitative Biology and Applied Mathematics, with a minor in Data Science. Welcome, Aditi—we’re thrilled to have you on the team! 👋

Recent Purvis Lab alumnus Tarek Zikry was just chosen to receive the Kupper Dissertation Publication Award for 2025. The award is given in recognition of the best doctoral dissertation-based paper appearing in a prestigious biostatistics journal completed during a calendar year. Meet Lorenzo, sitting at his favorite place: the tissue culture hood. Lorenzo is a junior majoring in Biology and Chemistry, and has been a member of the Purvis Lab since his freshman year. Currently, he’s working with Garrett Sessions on a project utilizing Iterative Indirect Immunofluorescence Imaging (4i) and computational analysis to study how proximity and duration of exposure to SASP factors affect the cell cycle fate of healthy cells.
