Purveyor of fine artisanal magic smoke. he/him.

Media distribution in 2022 is *weird*, and today I found a fantastic example:

I've been listening to the (very funny) 2019 podcast Finding Drago, that was commissioned by the ABC. https://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/finding-drago

In one episode they interview Anna Broinowski, who in 2007 made a documentary about a hoax author con artist called Forbidden Lie$

The doco sounds really interesting from Anna's account of it, surely we can watch it somewhere... yeah?

Finding Drago | Finding Desperado with Alexei Toliopoulos and Cameron James - ABC

Finding Desperado is a brand new investigative mystery podcast, hosted by comedians Alexei Toliopoulos and Cameron James — the team behind the most talked about podcast of 2019, Finding Drago. Australia’s premier (and only) pop culture detectives, Alexei and Cameron have uncovered a bizarre Guinness World Record from 2005. A record held by an elusive European aristocrat. A record that they believe to be fake.

Last part of my series on reverse engineering BMW electronic gear selectors is up: https://projectgus.com/2022/07/bmw-f-series-gear-selector-part-three-success/

Watch me mess about with the bespoke transmission emulator software "Bavariatron 5000"!

Electronics folks, if the conformal coating flakes off the top of a chip like this then could it be a sign the chip has gotten hot, or more likely just an assembly/curing issue? Rest of the board has A+ coating
Plus now I have conductive Blu-Tac residue to clean out of my breadboard
Me, debugging a module in a breadboard: "Why are breadboards always so flaky... fed up with this, I should know better... time to get the module out and wire it up without the breadboard." ... "Oh."

The ASIC website is a lovely reminder of what computer applications looked like in 2003.

(This post is not even really snark, it's quite nice in a retro way.)

Forgot Hacklace 2 came with its own promotional material

"Makes you smile!" ❤️

Doing a clean out and I have three electronics kits that I would love to mail for free to any Australian nerd/parent/Hackerspace that would enjoy building them:

1) Freetronics Cube https://www.freetronics.com.au/products/cube4-4x4x4-rgb-led-cube
2) Hacklace https://wiki.raumzeitlabor.de/wiki/Hacklace/en
3) Hacklace 2 https://github.com/fab4U/Hacklace2

The Freetronics Cube is pretty fiddly to build. The Hacklaces look simple enough for a first time solderer with a bit of guidance.

A sign of Australian summer: you have to take the extension reel out of the shed a while before using it, because the over-temperature has tripped from just sitting around...
