Never did like Scooter much.

To describe Trump's actions as “potential conflicts of interest” misses the point. A “potential conflict of interest” sounds like an unfortunate situation in which it’s possible that Trump might choose his own personal interest over the nation’s. Stated this way, the problem is the conflict.

But Trump isn’t conflicted. He repeatedly chooses his (and his family’s) interests over the nation’s. He is using the authority and trappings of the presidency of the United States…

Trump has checkpoints at the border, for people LEAVING.

"... U.S. vehicles heading north to Canada through the Peace Arch and Pacific Highway crossings are sometimes being stopped by U.S. border patrol before they leave the country.... In some cases, it's added hours to crossing times.

US border checkpoint for people LEAVING THE US

"They stopped and asked us to open everything up," said David Crosby, U.S. resident who crossed into BC on Tuesday.

Checkpoints by U.S. border patrol raise concerns amid drop in Canadian visitors

In an unusual scene, vehicles heading north from the U.S. into B.C. are sometimes being stopped by U.S. border patrol before they exit the country and arrive at Canadian customs. In some cases, it has added hours to crossing times.

I thought the USSR was long gone, but Trump just revived it: Say hello to state planned pricing.

And I thought it was the Republicans who always accused everyone else of being communist… hmm.

@randahl not only state planned pricing for the USA, but he wants to determine the prices for the rest of the world as well.
@karelbrits Next up: An executive order to price eggs like in Africa.

@randahl “…something the Democrats fought for many years”

You mean like the insulin prices that you raised? He’s such a fucking liar.

@Extra_Special_Carbon @randahl I think he missed an extra “for” there.
@randahl I hope everybody shorted their pharmaceutical stocks lime they were told, Friday.
@randahl An executive order doesn't change drug prices. Republicans and trump have opposed Medicare negotiating lower costs for over a decade.
When trump declared all of those bankruptcies did he just yell out the window, "I declare BANKRUPTCY!" ?
When trump came to power again he destroyed the policy that cut insulin to $15 per month, or something like that.
He's so full of shit and lazy as fuck that no one should expect this to go further than his stupid signature on the EO.
@BLTpizza @randahl That's what Michael Scott did: stuck his head out the window and yelled BANKRUPTCY!.
@kevin @randahl Yep. I'd argue that Michael Scott is a far superior character to the guy that thinks he's still on The Apprentice

@randahl Not quite communism though. Is Derangedism a thing? He seems to be inventing it as he goes along.

The fun bit will come in two parts:
1) Watching the pharma companies come up with schemes to circumnavigate this order.
2) Tracking the lobby and donation money. You can piss off the people and still remain president, but pissing off corporations? That's really crossing the line!

@alan @randahl Executive Orders are literally just orders to the executive branch. Nobody else, at all, is under any obligation to follow a US presidential executive order.
@Randahl Fink LOL! He says he's "going to do the right thing", that would be a first 😂
@randahl ah, i'm pretty sure they blocked anything meant to control drug prices in the US, in the ACA or any other attempted reform brought by democrat, but hey, good if he does it, somehow i expect it to be kneecaped when campain contributors start calling in.
@randahl Instead of bread lines we’ll have insulin lines

@billd exactly. A contributing factor to the high insulin and weight loss medicine pricing is, Danish company NOVO has literally invested billions in a new American factory — just like Trump wants it. And now he wants to prevent them financing that investment.

Trump really creates a difficult investment environment. The long term ramifications of his leadership are really bad.

@randahl Thank you for the attention to this matter may be the best social media post signoff ever.
@randahl Wait wait wait wait... State planned prices?! Just like in the USSR, Cuba and Venezuela?!
@randahl great....insulin is free here in Romania, so I'll look forward to it being free in America after tomorrow! Sure it will....

@randahl Hoo boy … he’s going after the profits of pharmaceutical companies. Making powerful enemies …

You know what will happen: their stock prices will crash, he’ll rescind the policy and they will veer back up. In the meantime, his friends will have gotten notice of *when* he’ll yield and have been able to buy stocks at a low price. Same spiel every time.

@randahl Pretty sure the pharmaceutical industry is not part of the administration and thus not affected by EOs. Is he trying to be a king again? Anyway, if he is so obsessed with balance and fairness, he should make an EO that demands company executives should earn far less and regular workers far more than now.
@randahl lowering drug prices (which in principle is not a bad thing) will mean nothing if not accompanied by increasing healthcare coverage for all. If he truly succeeds in “saving trillions of dollars”, he cannot say no to then spending those trillions in universal healthcare (since it would be “more affordable “ now that drug prices are lower). But that would imply lowering costs in healthcare from other causes, which they aren’t doing. Therefore this is populism at its finest
@randahl Every accusation is an admission of guilt, from them .
