A couple of weeks ago my wife asked me to do a music night on Ska - where it came from, it's influence, it's punk and pop streams, through to 2tone, 3rd wave, how it changed New Wave and later the US west coast 90's sound etc. But her fav show as a kid was Degrassi Jr High. So we defs need to throw this Skankin' Pickle song in as the finale.

If you want to know just how clever great song writing is, this "why is this song great" on The Killers' Mr Brightside is fantastic, where he has access to the isolated tracks. 20 minutes of your life you wont regret if you love music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuCAFvcrtVc

For those of you who don't know, I have a side gig of song writing. I thought I'd have a laugh this arvo using ChatGPT to try and solve some lyric issues I have in a bunch of long term drafts - mostly about rhyming phrasing of human feelings and experiences in the context of the song. Hoo boy, would not recommend even for "out of left field" inspiration. Piss funny though in a weird plastic sociopath way.

I wonder if the world of guitar music gear has invented everything there is to invent.

I went looking for new effects pedals and there's nothing released over the last 12 months that can do something that my existing gear can't exactly do already.

On guitars, the new PRS DGT SE is nice if you want that sound and not have to pay $6K AUD for it - but there's not much else.

Amps - more of the same across the board.

It's probably, finally, a good thing for guitar based music.

@FionaKatauskas 👋 😀 hullo how are ya

It's always weirded me out that musicians on the one hand are the the most profoundly stupid cohort known to humanity, yet - simultaneously - every single piece of research on the cognitive effects of learning music clearly demonstrates that it expands and accelerates your understanding of the complexity of the world around you.

I love unusual binomial distributions and all, but JFC!

Just saw our first little baby bush turkey perching in a tree for the night.

Makes me wonder where the nest was - all our neighbours have dogs with full run of their yards, and whenever a male starts building at our place where the dogs don't have free reign, the poor bastard gets swamped by chickens scratching apart his mound faster than he can make it.

What's the best publishing platform around these days that is easy to read for would be readers?

I'm not interested in monetisation, just a platform to publish words and media that works well?

The Auckland rain bomb is almost the perfect example of climate change. Cities - even the most modern - are built with climate infrastructure based on dealing with historical climate patterns, and cannot handle the future. Yet the 'future' is right now.
