Charles Mingus got evicted from his apartment in 1966, after the peak of his career.
He was eventually arrested and removed from the apartment after he'd shot a bunch of holes in it for a film crew making a documentary about him.
Mingus' career was one long rage against racist America. His compositions scream "I'm still here! I'm mad! What you gonna do about it?" Each album becomes more insistent and angry; saying "I'm a problem you're never gonna solve. I dare you to try."
He was part-black, part-white, part-Chinese and part-Native American.
