@fell

Guilty as charged 🤣

@RockyC

This is fantastic! At my public library, we do laser engraving and vinyl printing with SVGs. Going to put these to great use.

The Mastodon timeline gods have seen fit to show two of your posts in a row to me. So I'll reply to this one as well. :P

It really all depends on what your looking for. If you want great customization and #NotWindows, Kubuntu is a great option. A lot of things are pre-configured well out of the box. The system should be reasonably functional.

IMO, though, Ubuntu-based distros are designed for out-of-the-box ease. And sometimes that ease comes at the cost of flexibility.

@whatzaname

Never be embarrassed to ask. Your preferences are your preferences.

That being said, do you mean the UI being cute right out of the box?

There might be. But this may be a case where the best answer would be a better question.

It sounds to me like you're looking for an aesthetic, which is more Desktop Environment than for distribution, which is a broader, more systematic category.

Cuteness would be a KDE/Gnome/XFCE etc matter rather than whether your system uses apt or systemD.

Whenever I update, I emerge....

victoriously. Or, at the very least, relatively unscathed.

Clarifying a line: I said the timelines is ultimately the goal. But I meant “If timelines is ultimately the goal.”

Switching instances can be done if you don’t like how servers are run/moderated and you don’t want your account on or associated with it.

Building on that. On the app side of things, I’ve found that Ice Cubes on iOS lets you view timelines of other instances even if you are not a part of them, which is ultimately the goal when wanting to switch instances.

I created a second account on fosstodon for the same reasons as you. But switching accounts was a minor annoyance. Like you, I didn’t want to do the whole moving process. The solution was Ice Cubes’ local timelines.
