@Robo there's a variant called New Choice, Bigger Choice.
The new choice is the same, but the director can also call BIGGER CHOICE. The player repeats what they last said but with a much larger emotional reaction.
@Robo 2 or 3 people up for a scene, and they start the scene however the like. Another person acts as director. The director can interject at any point they like with the instruction "new choice".
When that is heard, the last player to talk has to repeat what they said with a new choice of wording.
For example:
Hi, my name is John!
NEW CHOICE!
Hi, my name is Dave!
NEW CHOICE!
Hi, my name is Janice!
And the scene continues from there, with further NEW CHOICE throughout.
I guess as I created a Mastodon instance for improvisers I should prompt some #improv conversation, right?
Fellow improvisers, what are your favourite games or formats and why?
My favourite is New Choice. It's fun to play, it's funny to watch, and it's a great way to learn letting go of your first idea and building on whatever happens in the scene, because something weird will occur.
Over to you #improvisers
Hey all, an #introduction.
I’m Gaston. I build applications at the Innovations Lab at Hexagon and packed in the London life for the beautiful West Cork. Remote working truly unlocks this.
I’m a big fan of pub quizzes, sneakers, dining (food is life), my dog Scout (she’s an epileptic Boxer) and have quite a few thoughts on the cladding failures in the U.K.
I’m also unapologetically Trinidadian, so feel free to chat with me about the virtues of soca, doubles, roti and limin.
Reminder that if you're feeling lonely today, see this hashtag:
➡️ #JoinIn
There are lots of people (myself included) keeping each other company on there, with all kinds of posts from hot chocolate recipes to historical photos to horses covered in tinsel to just general thoughts and chatter.
You can use the hashtag however you want, serious or fun, and anyone using the tag is welcoming of replies and discussion so it's a great way of striking up a conversation.
See you there! ☃️
