The following statement was published by David North, chairman of the World Socialist Web Site Editorial Board, on Tuesday morning in response to the threat by US President Donald Trump to make Iranian civilization “die tonight.”
This crime, if carried out, will implicate the United States in an act of absolutely monstrous dimensions, comparable only to the crimes committed by the Nazis during the Second World War.
Even at this late hour the working class throughout the world must declare its opposition to this monstrous crime. It must be stopped. It cannot be allowed to happen.

The Democratic Party will not stop this crime. It has funded the war.
As Drop Site News reported, a substantial number of Senate Democrats believed Iran "ultimately needed to be dealt with militarily"--"That's precisely why they wanted Trump to be the one to do it."
The war will not be stopped by the institutions of bourgeois politics, which are complicit in it. It will be stopped by the organized resistance of the working class.
