As someone who runs my own blog, email, social media, backup system, home automation, business site, etc...
I feel like self-hosting digital services is a lot like backyard chickens. Rewarding, lots of control, independence from Big Egg, and a great reminder of why distribution of labor and efficiencies of scale are so important.
If you are at all following post-quantum cryptography (as I unfortunately have to for $dayjob), you want to read this. Even if you don't understand the math she uses (this will apply to lots of us), you can still likely follow the overall logic.
Disclaimer: I'm indirectly mentioned in the first sentence of the last section.

New blog post: A very unscientific guide to the security of various PQC algorithm. I guess I have entered the listicle stage of blog post writing, so I should add: Number 4 will shock you! https://keymaterial.net/2025/12/13/a-very-unscientific-guide-to-the-security-of-various-pqc-algorithms/
The New Wealth of Nations ($)
Kuwait established the world’s first sovereign wealth fund (SWF) in 1953.
Now, Middle Eastern SWFs have more than $5.6 trillion in assets under management (out of $14T in SWFs worldwide), which would make these pools of capital collectively the third-largest economy in the world. By 2030, that number is projected to climb to $8.8 trillion.
Unlike other money funds, they are not only investing for economic gain, but also to project their national power and protect their national interests.

If I get an email with a Word doc attached, and I open the attachment, why does Word let me edit and save the document in the "Mail Attachments" folder!? Make it read-only and force me to save it someplace real before editing... Grr.
Is there a way to make it behave more reasonably? (Mac, Apple Mail btw)
(Also, this is not for me, so recommendations of different software or high-tech solutions will not help :D )
