This is the social account for Pandora's Tale Wiki, a wiki about the dystopian science fiction trans catgirl webcomic by @comicsbyxan@transfem.social.

Follow this account for updates related to the wiki.

NOTE: This account, and the wiki, are both fan-run. This account is not in any way controlled by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Xan.

The very first content article of Pandora's Tale Wiki was the list of characters. It actually predates the wiki: the character table started as a spreadsheet when I was preparting for the first Pandora's Tale Character Tournament.

When I created the Fandom version of PTW, one of the first things I did was convert the table into
a MediaWiki article.

That article uses MediaWiki-specific features. Namely, it uses
PAGESINCATEGORY to display the number of chapters each character appears in.

Today, I have finished converting the character appearances table to gemtext. I had it in Markdown, but I realized I wasn't even using any markdown-specific features. Gemtext (and Forgejo's Markdown) lack tables, so I used plain text tables. (That's the format that
@yassie_j@labyrinth.zone used to hate until I single-handedly won them over.)

I also have a Python script for updating the number of character appearances automatically.

There's a long way to go to finish converting the wiki, but I'm hopeful I will be able to do it.

In 2021 and 2022, readers voted for their favorite character in Volume 1 of Pandora's Tale. All named non-metafictional characters were eligible. The tournament...

Awhile ago, I announced a plan to convert Pandora's Tale Wiki from MediaWiki to git. The main reasons are
1) In an era of increasing censorship, a wiki about queerness and fighting fascism should be available in a format that is easy to edit offline.
2) I think it will be easier to maintain.

Today, I have taken the first public step in that process. You can see a git-ified version of the wiki here:
https://git.average.name/1something/PTW
Hosting is provided by
@avghelper : That's right, a Helper is hosting the wiki about Helpers. She might, or might not, provide our permanent home.

Two things need to happen before I can declare this version of PTW the "main" one. First, I need to verify that this format is actually easier to maintain. That means waiting for
@comicsbyxan to release a new chapter so I can see how hard it is to update.

Second, (almost?) every page currently has formatting errors due to the conversion. I need to fix all of them.

Until I complete both of those steps, the MediaWiki version will remain at
https://pandorastale.wiki .

In response to the latest meta, I would like to provide an update on AI.

Pandora's Tale Wiki will
not use generative AI. We will not be revising this policy, and we are not opening a discussion on changing it.
Happy trans day of visibility!
Update: We are back! That didn't take long. Good job to the @miraheze team for helping!

Downtime notice: In response to Miraheze messing with their DNS stuff, I am going to attempt to modify Pandora's Tale Wiki's DNS settings. This will result in downtime for the site. Exactly how much downtime depends on how badly I mess up. #PandorasTaleWiki #Miraheze #DNS

Today I have completed one item that has been on my to-do-list for a long time: character relations sections! If you go to the article for any major character, there is now a "relations" section summarizing their relationship with each of the other major characters!

For example, see Pandora's section:
https://pandorastale.wiki/wiki/Pandora#Relations

I also want to give a quick update on my previous announcement. Last week I announced my
intention to migrate the wiki away from MediaWiki. That is still my intention. However, I think I may have been premature in making an announcement about it.

Currently, the engine-porting plan is in the brainstorming stage. There are a lot of details to be sorted out, and a lot of alternatives I need to carefully consider.

In the mean time, I'm going to continue editing the wiki content in MediaWiki. I am
not going to put much effort into writing technically-complicated wiki templates. If I find myself getting frustrated by syntax, I will stop working on that particular task so as not to burn out.

Welcome to the Webcomic Independent Wiki List,

@2something Fair warning, this might be a kind of inside-baseball reply.
So, I think a big part of the problem is, Wikipedia doesn't do a very good job of explaining *why* we (usually) omit deadnames (but sometimes don't). And there's actually several of reasons, not all of which always apply:
1) Publicizing a previously non-public deadname violates our original research and/or verifiability policies
