I like Jesus & Mensches, clean code & #node, subtle jokes & linguist folks, playing guitars and Oxford commas.

I stopped identifying as "Evangelical Christian" in 2016 and it wasn't because I stopped following Jesus or reading the Bible.

It was because I didn't want to apply the same label that associates with support for this man to be applied with me.

Donald J. Trump is the epitome of anti-Christ"

New AI research dropped. Turns out it makes our writing worse.

- it edits us more than we edit ourselves.
- it changes our meaning more than we would, including changing conclusions to essays
- it reduces linguistic diversity; we all sound more similar
- It makes grammar less personal and more formal
- It increases both emotional and analytical language
- it misses the point

Y'all.

I know the Tech-bro CEOs haven't thought about this, but it's worth pointing out that it'll be much __worse__ if the AIs unionize than if the engineers do.

And sometimes when we don't want that full-blown SPA, we do want some SPA-like features likes maybe state management attached to some small element of the User Interface. I ran into this kind of situation at Red Hat last year, and I want to share howRead More

I wrote an angry rant on my blog and that got me more connections to real human people on LinkedIn that 3 years of actually being on LinkedIn.

Which says something about the power of a swear-filled rant.

Apparently my rant about #FrontEnd dev started making some rounds on the web before I got a chance to even properly share it.

Now I'm curious what folks on here have to say.

A Rant about Front-end Development

I am a front-end developer who is FED up about front-end development. If you write front-end, this isn't about you personally. It's about how your choices make me angry. Also this is about how my choices have made me angry. Also this is mostly just about choices, the technologies are incidental. Note: The views expressedRead More

Not for nothing but if the US makes it to a 2028 presidential election it would be stellar if our options were born closer to the creation of the internet than the abolition of slavery.
