is there a train management game that gets the distance/density right?

i get that not having a space constraint and not having to deal with congestion would make for a less challenging game, but i feel like every business needing a double-track to cover it needs and every intersection needing to be an interchange kinda takes away from the train experience.

basically, is there a game where having single track railways with occasional passing sidings is a reasonable thing to do?
