The books is THE HOUNDS OF DAWN by H. S. Torben. I don't even like the cover art, but this book got its hooks into me, and now I want to read the other two.

Gwerful Mechain, Welsh female bard in the 13th century. Her most famous is below, and it goes hard, but she's also very playful. She has a pair of poems, "To the Cock" and "To the Cunt" (depending on the translator's level of prudence). Mechain is a god damn delight.
