Lulu’s Char Koay Teow in Hardware lane, #Melbourne CBD, now has an expanded menu. Friends and I tried their laksa, but the signature dish char koay Teow reigned supreme. However, the new deep fried tofu was pretty good, and the teh tarik in shaved ice (bingsu) form was novel.
@MrLee @Mr_Teatime it’s a tricky one, because you need to account for impacts on people and planet, but the ideas around what constitutes impacts, benefits, common good are highly contested. There needs to be bounds around capital, and probably the best way to do that is through a rights based approach. An expanded definition of human rights, rights of nature and rights of future generations. But the accounting has to be there, for exactly how those rights are transgressed.

Have settled on a diet schedule of when to have red, white and veg days in the week. I aim to alternate veg or plant-based days with meat days (I don’t consume dairy). If I do eat meat two days in a row, it would be white meat. On meat days, it would be a single serving of up to 250g (pre-cooked weight) of free-range, pasture-raised etc., as close to ethical as possible basically. Two typical weeks could look like the schedule in the photo.

@slevelt i noticed quiet roads on Wednesday. Maybe something to do with the shorter week and people needing to cram their work into it?
@JoshGrams I’ve often thought of such a bookmark, brilliant! Take that to market stat!
@MrLee this really nicely captures the rationalization of that cognitive dissonance held by those in climate breakdown-enabling roles.
@timrichards I’d agree that it isn’t a function democracy, and would add I don’t think it has been for a while, especially since the disastrous Citizen’s United ruling. With unlimited spending allowed in political campaigns, there’s a strong element of plutocracy to it all, which his presidency has just caricatured so brazenly.
@rbreich I’m guessing it’s an attempt for Trump to distract voters from multiple failures on the home front, and induce a rally around the flag effect. But it’s failing to do that, quite obviously. Trump will do whatever he can to stay in power, his instincts are all autocratic.
@amyfallon nice to see it being appreciated, it’s a really great place to work. My favourite spot is the arts reading room, quiet, comfortable chairs, lots of light. I go to the Guild Cafe area when I need an impromptu standing desk, and Mr Tulk for caffeine.
@foltin i disagree, the meat lobby is still pretty powerful. The EU recently agreed on legislation that meaty names like sausage, steak and burger must be dropped from plant based “protein” products. Agriculture must account for their climate emissions, nutrient runoff impacts etc. because countries are introducing legislation to protect their environments and natural resources. That means those plant based products become more competitive. There is no Soylent green conspiracy.
