Sinds 2009 is in de Verenigde Staten het aantal omgekomen voetgangers in het verkeer met 75 procent gestegen, blijkt uit cijfers die The New York Times deze week publiceerde. Overall I remain *mostly* disinterested in the fediverse-vs-atmosphere debates, because I am not interested in squabbles over the present but building towards a future. It's hard not to make a bit of side commentary though, I guess.

Open source is the new normal. Its the social contract that rebinds the digital plane to the interests of society at large.

If its not dominant yet in "social" its because the techbros have engineered one of the most consequential political coups of recent times. But times are a changing.

AI steelt niet alleen, maar presenteert het daarna ook nog eens als zelf bedacht, zonder naar het origineel te verwijzen, waardoor de bezoeker niet meer naar Wikipedia gaat en daar door gaat zoeken om dat het geheel keurig aan elkaar is gelinkt, met bronnen. Al deze pageviews, die ook nog eens nieuwe vrijwilligers binnenbrengen, worden gemist. En die bronnen drogen ook op. Want wie gaat er nu nog een website beginnen als dat door AI geen bezoekers meer oplevert?

@sebastientarnowskiEU the lack of such "data" and the insights those provide might be one of the key factors holding back alternative social network development.

The centralized adtech platforms have collected unimaginable amounts of data on human behavior, across demographics, cultures etc. But they are only incentivized to act on anything that furthers their monopoly stranglehold. The notion of a democratic, humane digital society that is empowering individuals is not accretive to profits🥶

imho its no longer possible to reach critical mass emulating of old Twitter, Facebook etc. (in any shape or form).

The ship has sailed, old generations are burned and tired of social, the new generations comming along are addicted to tiktok etc.

The hope of decentral and open source is not to win the nerds, but to accelerate good innovation that will make many more people join in new platforms that are fundementally different, offer more utility and less toxic / abusive
