Maybe you can’t buy everything local. What one thing can you start buying local? Can you switch from Starbucks to the local coffee shop? Can you switch from Petco to the local pet feed store? Can you switch from Dominoes to a local pizza place?

Maybe you can’t completely de-Google or de-Apple or de-Amazon your life. Can you switch one thing? Can you use DuckDuckGo? Move your passwords to Bitwarden? Open a Fastmail account?

Next up will be a VPN ban. Many tech-y people will see that and think “lol yeah well that’s not going to stop *me* from using a VPN”

A VPN ban isn’t really meant stop you from using one. It means when they catch you doing so, they’ll use the fact you’re using this harmless technology itself as a *pretense* to lock you up without needing to do any “hard work” (i.e. an investigator’s job) like actually confirming whether you committed a real crime.

Don’t think you won’t be impacted just because you know how to outsmart an ISP filter! This is not a plan to protect children or stop you from consuming adult media. It is a ploy to eventually eliminate ALL freedom of expression and free access to information in the UK.

And the same goes for Chat Control and encrypted messengers, btw

Here's a classic case of a byzantine corporate structure that allows executives to evade the law (here a ban on performance related bonuses set by OfWat).

Whatever the merits of Wessex Water's defence of the payment, what this reveals is how law-based regulation can be side-stepped easily by corporate structural organisation... and if you think this is either an isolated case, or just a by-product of such organisation, think again! Its intentional!

I have a weekly meeting video call, during which I open my meeting notes in Google Docs. For the past few weeks, my Google login has expired in the middle of the meetings - it's annoying. Apparently, Google's login session has a one-week lifetime; therefore, it expires roughly the same time every week.

Maybe login systems should suggest users to re-login, for example, 1 day before the login session expires. Perhaps also show the login session remaining time to the users.

The most thought provoking article I have read this week:

A Norwegian bus company wants to know if their buses could be abused by China in the case of war.

So they drive two buses deep into a limestone mine to isolate them from the internet and forensically investigate how they work.

In the mine, investigators discover a Chinese kill switch which could destroy all Chinese buses.

In Denmark, that is 57 percent of the bus fleet.

It's nice to view the vanity unit in AR, but I don't want to just lay it on the floor... Give me the manipulator, please.
