Eight hours of sleep on the rare occasion, 8 hours working as an unprofessional front-end developer, then on my other 8 hours, I poke my blog, take photos of my cat & try my best. Keen on #IndieWeb, #CSS, #sustainability, #plants, #crafts, #privacy, #DIY, #dreams & more.

Own Your Web – Issue 10: Links Worth Sharing

Hi All! 🤗 Every day, we browse the Web and scroll our timelines. And every day, we find even more interesting websites, blog posts, articles, videos,...

Own Your Web

It seems like a bunch of people are creating Now Pages for their personal #11ty sites. So much so, that there's now a “Now Page" category with 11 posts of how people are doing it. Enjoy!

This article from @heygeorgie is an absolute tour de force in what it takes to robustly, inclusively build fallback avatars from users’ initials, thoughtfully diving into the intricacies of real-world names and data. How I'm using @rem's excellent cli tool to automate sending webmentions when I build my site. https://localghost.dev/blog/sending-webmentions-from-a-static-site/
Sending webmentions from a static site - localghost

It occurred to me this week that even though I’ve been using webmentions as comments for a really long time, I hadn’t actually been sending them myself. The shame! Here's how I set it up.

@michelle it is 😩 I saw a cool trick that has been helping me. On my phone, I type the date (20th February), and it shows me all the photos taken every 20th February, and then I can delete old ones. If I do it every day, it takes me a year to sort it 😂😂

Recently, I took a whole day to unsubscribe from emails, but somehow, I have more emails because of online shopping 😩

@michelle you are spot on! Thank you for this!

I’ve been thinking about you because I have on my calendar the “digital cleanup day” and want to write about it.

Your last paragraph, to me, reminds me of how recycling is so hard. The onus should be on corporations, not us (IMO).
