The so-called "Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel" was funded by some banks and is given out around the time of the Nobel prizes in an attempt to capture some of the prestige of the real Nobel prizes.
Economics really is the dismal science.
