Here for the programming, computing, artwork, and monorail cats. Not here for the politics.

Today I invented a new word: Schreibescheiße (lit. write shit), the practise of websites writing clickbait, hyperbole, slop, with a few sentences of useful information buried with a sea of garbage.
"Putin doubles down on demands for Ukrainian territory". Lol. Of course he does. He smells weakness and the US's willingness to give him practically whatever he wants.
Playing around with #cobol again, "for fun". It's, um, "interesting".

Hmmm, the thing I like about #Tcl is that you can do the whole "data is code" thing.

You can get close in #python with the shlex module.

#raku will probably get you that, too.

Trying out gcc #cobol just for "fun".
Thought of the day: A PhD supervisor is in the business of herding cats.

I decided to use #Tcl as a scripting language for my programmable spreadsheet. So far I'm not regretting it.

Yeah, I guess there's #lua or #guile, but I liked the way that Tcl is a command-like language, so I decided to go with that.

I'll probably junk my existing mini-basic and script engine now.

The most sage comment I've read about config management tools: "you're pissing in the wind"

They give you a layer of abstraction. Problem is, unless you understand precisely how that layer works - and they usually have a lot of intricacies - the whole thing is a big bag of mystery.

So, I installed #ArchLinux . It didn't even come with "less" in the base. What were they thinking? In case we didn't need the "less" command?

#neoleo : your #spreadsheet can't do this!

#linux #ncurses #terminal

neoleo is a terminal spreadsheet for Linux. It is based on GNU oleo, but has been significantly changed since then.

I have been experimenting with trying to make a spreadsheet that adheres to the Unix philosophy. In this video I show you how neoleo can be used as process viewer. Let's see Excel or LibreOffice do that!
