I heartily recommend fatherhood for anyone who enjoys everybody in their life being mad at them simultaneously and for different things.

Our latest Climate Action Tracker briefing: current energy crisis can tip transformation over the edge, but many governments so far cling to the past and let opportunity for change pass. The market has decided for cheap, reliable, secure renewables and electrification. When will all governments?

Never let an energy crisis go to waste: government responses to the US-Israel war on Iran

📍 The ACCLIMATE Project Meeting and Summer School are officially underway in Paris👋

Our consortium has gathered in France this week, hosted by our colleagues at IDDRI!

All 20 partners from Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas have come together to review our latest scientific results, exchange ideas during the Summer School sessions, and map out the next steps, focusing on transparent and actionable climate strategies to meet real-world policy challenges.

For my latest report (published w/ Greenpeace Australia Pacific), I converted the IEA's estimate of likely fossil-fuelled data centre construction into emissions.

By 2030, the fleet of entirely new gas plants dedicated to data centres could have worse emissions than the UK's entire power grid

🌍 Time to meet another important member of the #Acclimate consortium: Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)

💡 The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is a public university located in Brussels, Belgium, with origins dating back more than 180 years. It offers a full range of bachelor's and master's programs, as well as an extensive research portfolio, with eight faculties covering social sciences, medicine, engineering, arts, sciences, law, psychology, and physical education.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce Norway must bravely and selflessly continue to sell ultra-expensive planet-wrecking gas to Europe, including opening up 3 new previously-closed gas fields.

This hurts* us more than it hurts you and your crippling, rising fossil fuel bills, Europe.

Our special Democratic Methane is unmatched: the democratic climate impacts you experience should be appreciated in full. We will be granting ourselves the next Nobel Peace Prize.

What a STUNNING quote, from a company selling fossil gas turbines at a data centre conference in Europe:

“I just think the American market is ahead of us [and] the same thing is going to happen here....it just will take a bit longer and it will be a bit harder because more people will be saying, ‘hang on a minute, we don’t want to be burning greenhouse gasses"

Inside the Plot to Cover Europe with Gas-Powered AI Data Centres

As the UK and EU debate how to source the vast quantities of electricity they’ll need to power their grand visions of home-grown artificial intelligence (AI), the gas turbine sector is confident that governments will soon follow the lead of the United States – by clearing the way for Big Tech to embrace natural gas.
