I just learned the story of how it was begun from Marlo Thomas in her interview with Alan Alda on his Clear + Vivid podcast. After explaining how her father, Danny Thomas, decided to create it, she goes into depth about how the research works and the joy it brings to her to run it since 1993 when her father passed.
