Results are in! By a 10% margin the hourly newscast posts were voted to stay.

Thanks to all that voted, shared, commented.

We added the hashtag #NPRhourlyNewscast to make it easy to filter it out, as suggested by some. Here is how to do it in Mastodon’s official docs: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/moderating/

We will revisit this issue periodically.

'Stand Your Ground' Linked To Increase In Homicides

If a stranger attacks you inside your own home, the law has always permitted you to defend yourself. If an altercation breaks out in public, the law requires you to try to retreat. At least, that's what it used to do.

In 2005, Florida became the first of nearly two-dozen states to pass a "stand your ground" law that removed the requirement to retreat.

Abortion rights supporters around the country & in the nation's capital are holding rallies Saturday & Sunday against the decision by a Texas judge to reverse the FDA's approval of a key abortion drug.

Tracking the States Where Abortion Is Now Banned

Most abortions are now banned in 13 states following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Georgia also bans abortion at about six weeks of pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed ban on abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy; not in effect yet pending review by the FL Supreme Court.

In many states, the fight over abortion access is still happening.

Fear of pregnancy: One teen's story in post-Roe America

In a state that bans abortion, anxiety about rape and getting pregnant drove this teen to start on birth control, though she's not having sex.

"I feel, after everything happened," she explains – with Roe v. Wade overturned and the six-week ban taking effect – "I just wanted to be a little in control."
