This is the studio microphone Edward R. Murrow used to make his famous CBS News Radio reports during WWII.
He used BBC facilities and when he was ready to return to the States after the war, his BBC friends gave him the mic, on which they’d put a plaque noting he used it with “such distinction”.
Murrow said it was his most valued trophy. He kept it the rest of his life.
I once got to see it up close.
It’s now at the National Press Club in DC.
