Hey there folks - just a heads-up if you are following me on this account and I follow you. I'm going to be moving my fediverse presence to my self hosted Pleroma instance. You'll probably see a follow request from this user later today:

@pete_wright

I don't think Pleroma supports clean server moves from Mastodon to Pleroma, but I don't have that many followers so no biggie. One of the joys of doing things for personal enjoyment β€‹

Hopefully the admin's here at will allow me to peer with them because I love the community here and don't want to loose touch! It's a server with two peeps currently myself and my wife - so don't anticipate any shenanigans :)

so it's actually pretty darn easy to get #pleroma running in a #freebsd jail using bastille. i also really like how it's built using erlang since i've got tons of experience running erlang apps at scale.

the docs are pretty great, the admin web UI looks good. great job devs - i reckon we could turn this into a bastille template pretty easilly.

gonna kick the tires later today and decide if its worth running my own fedi instance. the tech stuff is easy, but what about all the admin overhead?

hrm - anyone running a Pleroma personal server for the fediverse? i like how it uses elixir and apparently is less resource intensive than mastodon/ruby πŸ€”β€‹

might give this a spin today if i can find some cycles...

New followers that are flooding in:

Hi!

There's hundreds of you. Many have elephant avatars, which is like an egg over on β€‹. Fill out your profiles. Say something about yourself. You have four personal data fields. Stick some pronouns in one, your web site in another, a couple other things you think are important in the others.

Write a bit about yourself in your profile. Things that interest you, things you love, things you abhor.

Look at your local timeline. Follow some folks there.

Write a post about yourself. Use the hashtag # introduction (space added so this doesn't show up in search). Talk about yourself, and what you want folks to know. People use that to find folks in their posse.

Search that hashtag to find other new folks.

Interact. Reply to other folks' toots.

Find your posse, ride out together. Overthrow the new world order.

Once you've done all that, feel free to check out my books. β€‹

Howdy @FediFollows - I noticed there isn’t a BSD Unix group on the fedi directory, but there is a Linux one. Did you know we have an entire instance dedicated to BSD peeps at https://bsd.network?

It’d be cool if you could add myself, and maybe add our fedispace too πŸ˜„

Hello everyone! We're adding more servers today in the Seattle datacenter to load balance the instance.

Things may be unavailable during migrations, but we are here to GROW and you are welcome to grow with us!

Thank you everyone for your patience and support. A tip for now when uploading images is try a smaller size as that will speed up the conversion of your post.

We just published this guide at WIRED this morning, for those wanting to build your follow list from your Twitter. #TwitteMigration https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-find-twitter-friends-on-mastodon/

My company just sent a Phishing test email with the subject "Employee Appreciation Events".

1) don't do this IT departments, and if your vendor (knowb4 in my case) does this, tell them they need to stop.

2) it's a great way to remember that - no, my company would never do an appreciation event. but i appreciate it being rubbed in my face friday morning.
