If I had a nickel for every time a goofy mid sci-fi movie was elevated to cult status by having a soundtrack by Queen, I’d have two nickels… which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Also, praise be to Valve for the Proton library, which has made my transition to Linux gaming painless.
So, 3 weeks later, my Linux Mint experience has been a total turnaround. The night I last posted, I figured out where I had inadvertently skipped a dialog prompt. Fixed that, and that got my GPU recognized and my fans working. Once that was fixed, it was smooth sailing. This weekend, I got AlienRGB working, which fixed the last issue (controlling the laptop lights), and now I have a fully armed and operational battle station. Or gaming laptop. Whichever.

I installed Linux Mint 22 on my 10-year-old Alienware 17 R2 laptop, and it mostly worked really well! Installation went easy, and setup was pretty painless. Even had Steam installed. However, I noticed 3 things:
- GPU performance was sluggish compared to Windows (test: Battletech)
- Couldn't control RGB lights
- Couldn't detect or spin up fans to improve cooling (Windows doesn't give me control, but does spin them up).

The first two are an inconvenience. The last one is a dealbreaker, sadly.

Blood Angels Lieutenant that I finished painting this morning.

It's time to talk narrative play! In this episode, we're joined by Chris Stover, organizer of Narrative events at the NOVA Open. You might recognize him from last year's Grand Narrative coverage, but he's more than a chaos cultist cosplayer; he's the person behind one of the biggest narrative Warhammer 40K events in the country!
