The National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth (NNOMY) is a US-based network of organizations and activists that aims to counter the increasing influence of the military on young people. Founded in 2004, NNOMY seeks to provide alternatives to military recruitment by offering resources, educational materials, and support to students, families, and activists.

For Memorial Day 2026: Let us remember our own war crimes ...
When U.S. Marines killed twenty-four people in an Iraqi town, they also recorded the aftermath of their actions. For years, the military tried to keep these photos from the public.

No more of our children for Trump's wars. Recruiters are appearing at our schools, community meetings, social media, on our phones. Big or small, everything we do helps prevent a young person from making a decision they may regret.

Military Academies produce endless cases of PTSD, suicide, assault, sexual assault, cheating, and all the horrors that come with the worst forms of hazing. This is not a side matter, but central to the educational philosophy that maintains horrific suffering to be redemptive, and the transfer of revenge against upperclassmen onto innocent lower classmen to be leadership development.

We live in a country where young people are told there is “no money” for affordable housing, no money for mental‑health services, no money for climate resilience, no money for education, and no money for the basic social supports that allow communities to thrive. Yet somehow, year after year, there is always money for war. #WILPF

May, 14, 2026 / NNOMY Administration / National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth - The number of groups actively involved in counter recruitment has never been needed more.

We are planning a SECOND webinar Saturday, June 13th, 2026

Your attendance is vital. Big or small, everything we do helps prevent a young person from making a decision they may regret (and often do). RSVP at https://tinyurl.com/demilitarizeJun13

“How do veterans become homeless?” is a question that should not have to be asked in a healthy society. When addressed to me by a teenager in a school in the heart of Manhattan, it spoke volumes of the world students are about to inherit. Not only are they witnessing and experiencing horrors in every direction, but they’ve got frighteningly little information about what the future is going to hold for them, and even less about the military. https://nnomy.org/en/home-73768/1261-a-wanys-presenter-reflects-on-a-day-in-a-nyc-high-school.html
I watched the fall of Kabul, along with billions around the world. A tear formed in my eye as desperate civilians tried to flee their country, only for most to be left behind. I saw the last American soldiers board their flights, returning home not in victory, but in defeat. I had no words. History was rhyming before our eyes. It was Vietnam all over again. https://nnomypeace.net/2018-02-05-21-40-21/article-archive2/935-make-peace-not-war-how-vietnam-shattered-trust-in-government.html

The "Answering Tough Questions” category is focused on essential questions about military recruitment, military service, the ethics of organized violence, and human survival in war. Each question is something a young person might ask or encounter realistically from a military recruiter, a teacher, a family member, a peer, or even a counter military recruiter — and each answer is concise, factual, and ethically grounded, without drifting into fear‑based messaging.

Before You Sign: A Letter to the Young
A Letter We Wish Someone Would have Written to Us
Not your recruiter. Not your coach who “served.” Not the teacher who told you the military would “make a man out of you.” Not the influencer with the sponsorship deal and the gun she’s never fired at a living thing. Not the politician who’ll send you to die and then stand at your funeral with a flag and a speech full of words he stole from better men. #NNOMYpeace

The future is uncertain and frightening to look at… The thought that it is not a safe place for any child is terrifying. The news is not encouraging: violence, war, death, destruction. It makes me feel disappointed as an adult human being and a mother in the world that my little daughter inherits. We must leave a world where children are not collateral damage, where the spectacle of violence and war propaganda comes to an end.
