Had a conversation with a visiting colleague about how long it takes for academic work to see widespread adoption; it seems like 10–20 years is par for the course. Which mean that anything I'm working on now, will, if I'm lucky, be in general use around the time I retire.
I've taught TLS more times than I can remember, but this is the first time I've incorporated a discussion of domain validation. Which feels ... kinda important? If you don't understand how CAs decide to issue certificates, do you really understand what security TLS provides?
i'm procrastinating working on my proposal (which is due at 2am today) by working on the web page for my course next semester (which already has 25 students!)
