Hi, Iโ€™m Nik. ๐Ÿ‘‹ I live in Los Angeles, California โ˜€๏ธ with my wife โค๏ธ and our cats and dogs ๐Ÿพ.

Iโ€™m a software engineer working primarily with Python ๐Ÿ, and am the @pybeach chair ๐Ÿช‘ and a @socalpython organizer ๐ŸŽค.

I do CrossFit ๐Ÿ’ช and olympic weightlifting ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ, ride bicycles ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ, pretend to read ๐Ÿ“–, pretend to write ๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ, listen to too many podcasts ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ, and still wear a mask ๐Ÿ˜ท because COVID isnโ€™t over ๐Ÿฆ .

I often put bonus content in media alt text ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ.

Yes, I know it's YT. Yes, it might end up being taken down for whatever reason (doesn't take a lot of imagination to figure out why) No idea if @rebeccawatson has posted this on fedi or not. (edit: she has)

Even so, it is GREAT info to help contend with the coming events of this weekend. We'll worth the nine minute run time.

Be safe out there. #nokings #skepchick #teargas

How to ACTUALLY Deal with Tear Gas

If you have been anxiously waiting for it (and why wouldn't you be?), my PyCon US 2025 talk, "Program Your Own Computer in Python", is now available to view on YouTube:

@glyph @mariatta and also PyVideo.org which does a great job collating video from YouTube and other sources as well!
If you use YouTube at all, I'd really recommend subscribing to the PyCon US channel. There's just an avalanche of really good talks every year, and an enormous back catalog that you can peruse from. It's wildly underrated in terms of how few views these all get (and I'm not talking about my talks). People pay thousands of dollars and travel across the country to see these, but you can get them for free! Go get 'em!

An elected official just got forcibly removed from a press conference at which an executive-appointed official was spreading misinformation. Said elected official was thrown to the ground and handcuffed.

Just in case anyone was wondering where we were at in all this.

While building my own deployment tool is certainly proving to be fun, I canโ€™t help but wonder if Iโ€™d be better off using something more robust in production.

I know of Dokku, Coolify, and CapRover, but havenโ€™t really used any of them meaningfully.

Ominous: I just created PR 1984 in a repo.
