My old friend (and for almost thirty years my family's doctor) Dan Johnson has a charity he started in memory of his son, Alec, who was drowned in 2014. One of the projects they are supporting is helping a couple who work in Haiti with abandoned children (and aren't part of the Haitian "orphanage industry"). I went to sign some books at Woodstock's The Golden Notebook bookshop today and they gave me this book as a thank you. Two hours later her death was announced.

I gave a speech at Florida's New College Alternate Graduation. It's only 3 minutes long. I meant every word of it.

I was in awe of Barry Humphries not because of Dame Edna, but because he wrote so well, and because he wrote the introduction to a book of Robert Aickman stories. Thank you for the laughs and the wisdom, Barry.

I will miss my friend of 38 years very much. She was one of the funniest people I've ever met, and I was the better for knowing her.
