UK Games Expo 2027 hotel booked! And it’s within walking distance so none of that driving 30 mins every morning and evening. Marvellous.
Problem is, it’s held a little later than usual so I’m away for my wife’s birthday. That’s gonna be an expensive one 🤨

Heading to #ukge this weekend and was really hoping to be taking at least one game concept with me - alas, they are just not ready.
One might think that’s some unconscious stalling tactic, but they are not at a point where I can defend all the important design decisions yet: not enough playtesting. I must approach these things with authenticity, I cannot just wing it, and they need more work.
Now, if we could postpone #ukge2026 until August, that would be perfect.

Board Game News

I'm trying out a new idea for a board game. As always, if you have Tabletop Simulator on Steam, you can play it there.

Ten Minute Tabletop is a minimalist Napoleonic style tabletop wargame inspired by HG Wells' Little Wars but designed to be played in ten minutes. Battles are fought on a 9x9 hex grid that can be printed on a single A4 sheet of paper.

why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"

Finally managed to get my my (fairly) local #BoardGames weekly meet yesterday - it’s tough for me getting out in evenings due to working (in the UK) with a US team.

Great experience, friendly and open bunch of gamers who were very welcoming.

Hopefully I can make it regularly and play some of my games that don’t get much table time but I’m desperate to be play.

This week’s dispatch ponders Scottish voting rituals, casual prepping, kindness as a survival strategy, remembering old friends and celebrating 100 years of David Attenborough. There’s also folk music and me wondering if rituals of survival are acts carried out in defiance of helplessness. https://documentally.substack.com/p/rituals-of-survival-574-c6c
