Earlier today I saw fake-but-verified airline customer support accounts asking Twitter users who were reaching out to *legit* airlines to DM them for help.

This is asking for trouble once the scammers start stealing ticket/financial info.

@n69n How to migrate from one Mastodon server to another without losing followers:

1. Sign up on new server
2. On NEW server: Go to Account -> Moving FROM another account
3. Enter old account's handle
4. On OLD server: Go to Account -> Moving TO another account
5. Enter new account's handle and submit

I’m trying to switch servers, from mastodon.social to nuerodifferent.me within the MASTO app, and I’m having a hard time.
I know I’m asking a lot, but I’ve read a few guides, and I still can’t figure it out. I will keep trying, but if anyone has time to explain it in simpler terms….?

Having been here since 2016, I can tell you there is definitely no such thing as a consensus on usage of content warnings on the fediverse. It's a decentralized network that doesn't belong to any one party, so by definition there is no single culture on it. Different corners have different expectations and customs.

1/4 A key thing I've learned about Mastodon: When you find your friends on here, don't just follow them — add them to a list!

If you follow a lot of accounts, your close friends' posts may not show up in your feed at a time you're logged on. Unlike FB or Twitter, Mastodon has no algorithm to resurface your friends' posts from hours or days ago.

Solution: Create a list called "Friends" and check it when you're on. This will ensure that you see what they posted while you were away. (cont'd)
