The senate (re-)introduces a bill of attainder aimed at outlawing the work of Public Resource (known in thousands of court documents as “PRO”). https://www.coons.senate.gov/news/press-releases/senators-coons-cornyn-colleagues-introduce-pro-codes-act-to-protect-and-improve-access-to-safety-standards/ Guess I should be proud and honored they named it to the “PRO Codes Act.”
Senators Coons, Cornyn, colleagues introduce Pro Codes Act to protect and improve access to safety standards

WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-Del.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) today reintroduced legislation to enhance public access to universal safety standards and codes. The Protecting and Enhancing Public Access to Codes (Pro Codes) Act of 2026 ensures safety standards do not lose copyright protection when they are […]

Here's one for the icons-in-menus haters on macOS Tahoe:

defaults write -g NSMenuEnableActionImages -bool NO

It even preserves the couple of instances you do want icons, like for window zoom/resize

@jik fair enough. if you want to futz with CLI my OSS go to is dump to CSV and use CSVkit (or the Rust equivalent XSV, though less features). Would love if more OSS folks were as passionate about GUI as they were about TUI but think it’s a function of the habitat they (we?) all work in most of time.
@deafferret a lot of things must be true for that concern to be an actual threat vector:
- They could not previously track my movements with existing tools
- Me protesting is interesting enough to warrant scrutiny
- My protest involves movement and not tooting on Mastodon or putting a sign behind the camera on my front door
- They have the competency to review large amounts of video data
- The cameras are angled such that I am sufficiently visible/identifiable
@jik try TablePlus https://tableplus.com. Much better than any other DB GUI I’ve used especially for Postgres.
TablePlus | Modern, Native Tool for Database Management.

Modern, native client with intuitive GUI tools to create, access, query & edit multiple relational databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon Redshift, MariaDB, CockroachDB, Vertica, Cassandra, and Redis.

I would like to ask all the civil liberties crowd if my Ring camera is a big threat to freedom and definitely a “surveillance nightmare” why do my packages keep getting stolen?
@anildash when I started coding as a career I was doing Ruby on Rails and it was amazing. Sadly bootcamps and market forces caused JavaScript (and Python) to beat out Ruby. Now I can easily transpile other code bases into Ruby (thank god) and coding in non-Ruby languages is no longer insufferable. Though seriously wondering how Claude Code exists and people are still writing Electron đź’©instead of transpiling native apps across platforms.
On a City of Boston public hearing in Zoom and 90 minutes in they haven't even started calling members of the public.

AI in IVF could be “awesome, or terrifying.”

Randomized trials show AI tools picking embryos almost as well as humans—but 10x faster. But who will control the algorithm? Phineas Rueckert digs into the new fertility frontier in our latest #Longreads piece: https://longreads.com/2026/03/03/ivf-and-ai-infertility/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social
